From Overwhelmed to Empowered: A Doc’s Journey to Chiropractic Practice Bliss

If you run a chiropractic or any health care practice, I'm sure it hasn’t been all smooth sailing. In fact, I'm sure you've had tough times; we all have.

The stress of paying bills, making payroll, the demand of patients, and problem employees can sometimes be suffocating. We all face burnout, and I don't want you to burn out before reaching your full potential.

Today's case study is from one of our members here at The Data Driven Practice. He may be just like you yesterday. But today, he is crushing it with our proven system.

The coolest thing about what I do is I get to save doctors’ lives just like you're saving patients. I turned my attention to saving doctors’ lives because I became so passionate about helping our profession make sure they have the support they need to build profitable practices.

But the whole secret of work-life balance, I hate to tell you, is a bit of a facade. There's not a lot of balance in building a successful practice. It's more about focus – focusing on sprints and making sure you're present at all times. Remember, it's not about the quantity of time but the quality of time.

Just like you, I have extremely busy sprints. I remember one day, I was stressed because I had just finished several strategy calls with doctors. I had just gone live and done a webinar, and I was preparing a slide deck for a presentation I was about to do in Alaska.

I was stressed, and I was feeling the pressure to wrap things up so I could move on to the next project when suddenly, I heard my email notifications bell go off. I glanced over at my email and noticed a subject line saying, “Setting records!

That caught my attention, so I read this email which was from one of our members, Dr. Chad. Now, the coolest thing about Dr Chad is he’s only been with us for about four months at that time. He attended one of our live events where all of our members get together and dive deep into the processes and principles of how to take your data and turn it into dollars and how to ensure that we can reignite your purpose, passion, and your profits. And Dr. Chad went all in with one of our programs.

He then began applying the principles that he learned to his practice. At the time, Dr. Chad had been in practice for over 25 years. He wasn't a new doctor, and this wasn't a new game to him. He admitted that he came to the event as a last hope. He was burnt out, and he was thinking about shutting his doors and retiring early. But at the event, because of how we work with our doctors, he felt support and saw a path to profitability. 

He shared that in four short months, they had record collection months, and he was actually working fewer hours. Can you imagine working fewer hours and generating more income?

He also shared that not only are they the most profitable they've ever been, but they're actually getting their best patient outcomes. He’s happier than he’s ever been in practice in all of his 25+ years.

That's why we're here, isn’t it? To have joy in our work. If you're not having joy in your work, something's broken. The Driven System

The secret to Dr. Chad's transformation was putting in the Driven System. This driven framework allows you to identify four key things that, by putting them into your practice, give you clarity: clarity of where you've been and where you're going.

The Driven System

  1. Finding your prime mover. Your prime mover is the number one process that, if you fix it, would have a tremendous outcome on the rest of the data below it.

  2. Ensuring your team understands how to make data-driven decisions on lead measures. Once we identify the prime mover, we look upstream and identify the thing that needs to be fixed.

  3. Team scoreboard. We have to know if we’re winning or losing. Are we moving the needle or not? Are we improving, or are we actually accelerating improvement? When do we celebrate? We have to have a score.

  4. Cadence of accountability. That's why we put in a daily and weekly cadence where you and your team are glancing at where the focus needs to be and how we’re doing in moving that prime mover.

In our community of data-driven docs, we find that many doctors are suffering from one of two things: low collections or too much time in the practice – they're being burnt out because they're working too many hours.

After implementing the Driven System, Dr. Chad now has more time, he has more profitability, and they were actually hiring more team members because they now had the capacity to help more patients.

He got very clear on the specific patients he and his team wanted to serve and help them transform their lives. That is what we call a data-driven practice. Dr Chad went from frustration, being overwhelmed, and burnout to this new state of joy, happiness, passion, and profitability for what they do.

I once heard a speaker on stage tell me that doctors don't burn out. They just get broke. And it makes sense. When you're struggling financially, it's hard to maintain that passion for your work. You start to feel like people don't appreciate what you do, which couldn't be further from the truth.

We value what you do, doc. You are the one who has the power to transform patients’ lives. But, we have to have the profits. By pairing profitability with outcomes, we become transformers in our community that save patients’ lives. We're giving them back the ability to live fulfilled lives.
